Christ Agony: Nocturn

10/11/11  ||  Lord K Philipson

The selling-point of this band is the fact it includes some ex-Vader member and the drummer from Polish death metal behemoths… eh… yeah, Behemoth. This prolly means Christ Agony (the moniker is actually so bad it’s fantastically good) play death metal, huh? Yes, they do. Pretty much a quite slow, melodic and sub-par version of it too. With a little black metal atmosphere thrown in. While the logo sports a inverted cross and a pentagram and the song titles are all tr00 and shit, there’s nothing that comes across as particularly “evil” on this here ninth (!) album. To be this far into a career and yet being unable to come up with something better than what’s presented on “Nocturn” is not a good sign. You won’t find anything on this here platter that will blow you out of your panties. Christ Agony is just another death metal band, getting a little recognition becoz of some of the members’ participation in other more well-known and respected bands.

5/10: It’s nowhere near the standard of Vader and Behemoth, no matter how much the press sheet wants us to believe it is.
